Little Miss Muffet

Anders has a package of, like, 250 stickers of various sea life.
He likes to have them in the car and ask - "WHO WANTS A STICkER?"
He then passes them out to whomever wants one.
The other day Kuba responded with an "I DO!"
Anders asked him, "DO YOU WANT A TUFFET STICKER?"

Anna who was listening from the drivers seat and knew there were only sea animals, asked, "WHAT'S A TUFFET?"

Anders said "YOU KNOW, LIKE LITTLE MISS MUFFET."

When Anna looked at the tuffet sticker later, it was very clear that Anders is ONE clever little boy!

And may he find a sea urchin this summer on the beach somewhere!

Day TWO

After 7 hours in the basement today, I finally got it finished!
Organized, cleaned and sassy.

Now, I just need to haul the barn stuff to the barn (from the basement I might add) and then be done with it. I had plans to do the barn too, but just might save that until tomorrow. If I feel like it at all, that is. I might rather do gardening. Or read the paper and drink a lot of coffee.

All in all, I am still happy and enjoying this solace.

Anna reports that all is well in NH. Jakob fell in some waterfall on a hike yesterday as he was reaching for a rock and hardly noticed! He was so focused on snatching the rock! They were out playing rocket baloons when I called today.
Good to know mama number two has it all under control!

Home Alone

Weird, isnt' it?
I haven't been home alone for more than a few hours in 4 years....
And here I am, alone for two and one half days.

Ah.

It's amazing.
I slept the entire night through last night without waking up once.
I woke up at 6:17, but that is just my normal wake up time now.
The amazing part is that I didn't wake up until then.

Ah.

And I did whatever I wanted today, on my schedule.
It was truly heavenly. Sure, I cleaned and sorted and did laundry too, but there was not one single interruption. Serious bliss.

Anna took the boys to NH for a visit with her brother, and my task is to finish the downsizing mess we created when we recreated the duplex. And get ready for a tag sale. Lovely, don't you think? All the spiderwebs in the basement can't put a dent in my euphoria about solitude.

Ah...

Owl or Dove, Dove or Owl?

We took a walk tonight with friends in a beautiful wetlands and then meadow. This is a little clip of Anders and his friend Oscar. They are walking along and hear a Mourning Dove. Oscar hears it first and says he hears an Owl. Anders says it could be a dove. It goes back and forth between them, Oscar insisting it's an owl, and Anders saying it could be an owl or a dove...we just don't know. It's beautiful!

Kitchen Chemistry

We had a lot of fun today doing volcanic science experiments in the kitchen. Who knew that a little baking soda and vinegar could be so exciting?!!

Recipe:

A little bit of warm water and dish soap with a little food coloring added (1/4 cup)
About 3 tablespoons of baking soda
Put the above into a small bottle
Add enough vinegar to cause an erruption (about 1/4 cup at a time)

You can repeat the pouring of the vinegar into the bottle to repeat the erruption.

It's Raining, It's Pouring

We took a walk in the rain today and ended up at our friends house, even though they weren't home. They have 3 chickens that we like to visit, Emily, George, and Balee. After checking in on the hens we sat on their front steps for a rest, or maybe just to make faces.

Sleeping Beauties III

Yes, we did have to move them in the end, but they sure looked incredibly beautiful draped across the bed.

Baby Squirrel!!

Yup, baby squirrel. Anna saw a baby squirrel in our barn this morning. Anders was so excited he put birdseed in his little bug box hoping to catch it. And of course, he did! The cage doesn't have a door so the little thing left us soon after eating up some of the seeds. This is living proof that even in the city you can have cool backyard animal things happen!
