Pirates of Penzance

Booty!

Kuba’s theater troupe had a potluck lunch in keeping with the theme of the play - The Pirates of Penzance.  He brought a treasure chest filled with gold and gemstones. i.e. - gold foil wrapped chocolates and plastic rings with fake gemstones.

Snow People

Sometimes dog walks end up as a chance to play in the snow.
Today’s fun brought to you by Anna, Lea, and me!

Finally, Our Turn for a Murder

For years we have LOVED the season of crows.  Thousands of them will perch high in the treetops and make their way around Burlington.  Rarely do they roost here near our home. But they have lately! A few nights in a row they have been perched right above our barn and in the trees that surround our house.  It's been wicked fun and so exciting to feel the energy and hear the cacophony of a true murder of crows.

Is and Isn't

Anders is and isn't on the Nordic team this year....yes, he's been practicing with the team, but no, he's not been doing races. He's been training with them as a way to get in shape for the ultimate frisbee season.  He likes skiing but he just does not like the racing aspect.
Ironically, these photos are from a recent race he did decide to do.
I think, for him, its fun being out in the snowy woods especially with his crew of Nordic ski friends.

Family Art in the Barn

We had  our first family night of art in the barn,  Amy, Otis and Andy came over and we all made blockprints....well all except me.  I was the helper.  I really loved the prints the kids made. Anders made the bear print and Kuba made the owl print. I think they are perfect. Every single one of them was different and fabulous.

The Power of Siblings

We are sisters
Sandy and me
Four years apart
Anders and Kuba are three years apart
Brothers
We are each so lucky to have someone we love so much in our lives.
Siblings
Now that my mom has passed away, I realize even more,
how important my sister is to me.
Like an anchor
Like a lighthouse
Like a touchstone
Trust at the center
I trust my sister and I rely on her.
It's been 62 years that we've been together. I hope that my boys continue to nurture their relationship, that they look beyond the minor arguments, the disagreements, the space and time over the course of a life. This sibling relationship is more powerful than a friendship, freer than a spouse, different than a mentor, and more honest than a parent. It's the longest relationship you'll have. It's the person who knows you across time, across change, across the bumpy landscape. It's the person who loves you deeply and stays, who cheers you on, who roots for your happiness, who offers solace when you need it most. It's the person who loves your children like their own, and who reminds you of what is true and good about you. It's also the person who holds up the mirror for you and asks you to tell the truth, so you'll grow.
All the while with love and love and even more love.
We've been taking a lot of photographs, the two of us.
Why?  Because we enjoy seeing ourselves together.
We are growing older and there is solace here.
Siblings
Forever

Happy New Year!

Just a sampling of the high energy of the evening!
(though for the record, I was asleep on the couch from 10-11:55pm!)
A BUNCH of kids along with Anna and Robin, were out in the barn playing games for hours. Right before midnight they all came in to watch the balldrop and to ring in the New Year.  It was loud, festive and fun.
Welcome 2023!
